National Adoption Month

So November is Adoption month! David and went to a really nice dinner last night  for Forsyth County DSS. The dinner was delicious and we met some amazing people with GOD given hearts and passion for children in care. One lady told me it was like an addiction, they just couldn't stop. They have had 8 foster kids and adopted 6 of them. They continue to foster as well. We met another couple who are in their 70's and between fostering and adopting have done 12 over the years and are getting re-certified to foster again. WOW!! We are called to love the un-lovely! To hear there stories of how these kids have thrived due to genuine love and care was so exciting. We should never look at children as a lost cause.

The speaker was amazing, Jane Thompson. Assistant Attorney General for NC was the guest speaker. She made such valid points, things I had never really thought about. David lost his mom just a month or so ago, and as many of you know I lost my friend Josh a few years ago. Jane was saying that in general as bad as loss is for us our normal lives stay intact… we go back to our homes our friends family and routine. But kids that come in to care don't get that, they lose everything… A very sobering thought, you look at the kids and think they should be grateful to be placed in a safe and loving home, she said you shouldn't expect them to act grateful, they are sad mad angry, they have had their world turned literally upside down.
November a month of thankfulness… what better month to share about adoption. While we are thankful for our families this month remember the many orphaned that are dreaming, wishing and praying for forever families or even being reunited with their own! Maybe you and your family will want to prayerfully consider how you can help or get involved! Like most things these situations generally end up blessing us and teaching us way more then we ever had to offer!

I have also realized that we all have an adoption story, I have 2 of course one being my earthly adoption but second my heavenly one!!

Notice the headline change?? an adoption tale….

So David and I have been married for almost 7 years, and yes as you can tell no children have emerged. We have prayed and prayed and many others have prayed and prayed, but well still no babies! Many would say why isn't God answering your prayers?? Well He is!!! It may not be the answer we want or hoped for but He is still there and he is still listening.

David and I realize that many of you are asking yourselves or maybe saying to yourselves, why don't they try harder, get tested, take meds, go see a fertility specialist, try iui or invitro yadda yadda yadda. Well we did a few of those things, but no success, and we had decided that we would not spend exorbitant amounts of money trying some of the other methods that may or may not work. So 6.5 years later we have started the adoption process. We prayed and researched and decided to adopt from the foster care system. We are adopting not fostering to adopt. There are thousands of children in the foster care system, what better way to care for our own community and children then to adopt here locally. The cost associated is very low and sometimes there is no expense. David and I contacted our local DSS and signed up for the September 2013, 5 week MAPP class that is required of all perspective foster and adoptive parents.

This class was very informative and we both learned a lot. We also got to meet some great people that took the class with us. We know that this path will bear more challenges then other means of adoption, but we know God will not give us more then we can handle, and these kids need a home too. It's not just about us. God commanded us to take care of the orphaned. There were not stipulations on this, like only if they are babies, only if they don't have baggage etc… These kids need Gods love so much just like each of us does. Sometimes… I feel God asks us to step out and have faith in Him, David and I are excited about this new chapter in our lives. Many people have their opinions about what we should get or pursue regarding ages and whether it be a girl or a boy. But just like expecting parents… we want Gods best for us and that they are relatively healthy. David and I ask that you will partner with us and pray! Pray for this child that David and I have prayed and waited so long for. We know that God has a plan and has the perfect child or children for us. We know that God is already at work in this child'
s life. Please pray that God prepares their heart and ours for the day we get to bring them home and call them ours!

Adoption is such a beautiful example of our Father in Heavens love for us. He loved us even though we were filthy and full of sin! He adopted us as his sons and daughters. He did not put conditions on us of how we come to him. I pray that God would continue to break down the barriers for David and I regarding these children. There is no perfect child… but we know God has the perfect one for us! David and I realize that our life and story is different then others, and we are beyond ok with that. Adoption is a beautiful sacrifice and choice. No David and I may not experience everything new mom's and dads get to, but we will have experiences and milestones that others will never know. Just ask my parents, I am so thankful my parents did not see me as a mess of baggage and too old to adopt. Instead they saw a little girl in need of a home and saw a beautiful mess that God was going to change from the inside out. We have celebrated victories cried over losses and praised God through it all.

We are so blessed to have a really amazing and sweet social worker. We have been pre-apporved since our finger prints came back. Now we are in the home study process. We have answered lots of questions and filled out many pages of questions. We only have like 1 or 2 meetings left with our social worker. Once she has all our info she will compile it all together and submit it to the Forsyth County Adoption board and then they will decide based on the home study as to whether we are approved for adoption. Please be praying for us through this process!!

Home again Home Again Jiggity Jig!! So this post is 365 days late LOL!!!

So exactly one year ago today David's Boots landed on American Soil! Hard to believe it's been a year and hard to believe I never finished out deployment tale! So I guess I will let all of you know, it was sooooo amazing to finally have David in the USA.

I left on the November 13 to bring my Sailor home. On my way to go get David, my mind was racing and my heart was all a flutter! I had so many peoples voices in my head. How would our marriage be, would it be awkward, will he be different, would I be different, what will the adjustment be like, would things be like the way they were…. you get the point.

The moment I saw him, I knew everything would be fine, he grabbed me and swung me around in the biggest bear hug! And well we had no problems of awkwardness or shyness… We fell into step so well, it was like we had never been apart. We spent a few days in Norfolk while David did his check out stuff and then we headed home!

David had all kinds of fun surprises waiting on him when he got home. I had a flag pole installed with the American Flag and the Nay Flag.

I revamped his Man Cave! I put al his posters and got him Home Theater Seats. Our neighbor Jimmy had the New Call of Duty Ready for him!

We visited lots of family and friends and got to surprise many of them!

The cutest thing was the dogs reaction to him coming home! They sure missed their Daddy!!

Many of you know, but David write me 270 love letters for the year he was away, each one of them had a puzzle piece in it. David carried the last piece with him. How good to have the final piece of the puzzle and my heart home!!!

David and I have enjoyed being together again so much. We went to Playa Del Carmen Mexico for a week in December. It was so much fun to relax, explore and travel together. This year has flown by and David and I haven't missed a beat. We are stronger people because of this experience and our marriage is stronger then ever!!
